If you have Medicaid, get ready to renew!
Medicaid redetermination is when people on Medicaid are asked to show they still qualify to get Medicaid in their state.
It’s also called Medicaid Renewal or REDE (pronounced “ree-dee”). It all means the same thing.
This process has been on hold during the pandemic, but it’s back in 2023. That means you must complete your renewal to continue to receive Medicaid benefits.
3 Steps to Get Ready to Renew
Make sure your address and contact info are up to date
Your renewal notice will come in the mail, so it’s extremely important that the Illinois Department of Human Services has your correct address.
You can verify your address online or by phone
Use the the online Change of Address form
For a quick way to update your address only.
Visit Abe.Illinois.gov, Click Manage My Case
Call 877-805-5312
Monday-Friday, 7:45am-4:30pm
Select Option 8 to report a change of address
Beginning in April 2023, everyone with Medicaid will receive a letter.
Everyone’s renewal due date is different, so it’s important to know your specific date.
How To Find Your Renewal Date
Visit Abe.Illinois.gov
Click Manage My Case & create your profile
Click the Benefits Details tab.
Tip: You can also speak with your doctor’s office.
They can usually look up your date for you and may be able to help you complete the process.
Keep an eye on your mailbox
The State of Illinois will send you a letter one month before your renewal date – so be sure to check your mail often.
There are two types of letters going out – Form A and Form B:
-
- If you’ve received Form A, you’re all set! You’ve been automatically renewed.
- Most people will receive Form B, and you’ll need to fill out some paperwork.

Renewal forms are due on the first day of the following month – so it’s important to get it completed quickly.
